Pioneers Sweep Broome

The ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College baseball team scored 33 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Broome CC on Thursday afternoon.  The Pioneers improve to 22-13 on the season with 17-5 and 16-11 victories.

Leading 3-0 early, ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï scored 12 runs in the 2nd inning to put the opener out of reach.  Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) was 3 for 4 with 6 RBI including his team leading fifth homer of the season.  Ray Sova (West Genesee) was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI while Karl Komel (Ottawa, ONT) and Justin DiCarlo (Oakville, ONT) were each 2 for 2 with 2 RBI.  Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) earned the win on the mound.

ASC fell behind 2-0 early in game two but scored 15 of the games next 16 runs to take control of the contest.  Brian Ervay (Elmira Southside) was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI while Kofmel continued his solid day with a 2 for 2, 4 RBI performance.  Jake Dale (Keshequa) connected on his second homer of the year and finished with 3 RBI while Ryan Barkley (Penn Yan) hit a three-run shot, his first collegiate homer, in the 4th inning.  Sova tossed four effective innings to earn the victory on the mound.

±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï closes out Region III Division II play on Saturday when they travel to Dwyer Stadium for a pivotal doubleheader with Genesee CC.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
