Cody Dill (Unatego) and Taylor Nelson (Somers) earned 3rd place finishes as the ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College wrestling team competed at the Jamestown CC Open on Saturday.
Dill opened up the 125 lb. competition with a 16-5 victory over Andrew Spicer (Penn State Dubois) and then pinned Paul O'Rourke (Niagara CCC) in 1:18 to advance to the semifinals. He fell in the semis to Keith Klink (Lindsey Wilson) but rebounded with a 13-9 victory over Peter Mosher (Gannon) and a pin of Victor Guarriello (Jamestown CC) in 27 seconds to earn 3rd place honors.
Nelson rebounded for a opening round loss to eventual champion Martino Sottile (Cortland) with two victories in the consolation round to earn 3rd place at 197 lbs. Nelson downed Bill Semones (Lindsey Wilson) 3-1 and then pinned Connor Holmes (Ithaca) in 5:37.
Eric Giles (Vestal) did not place in the 174 lb. weight class but ended the competition with a 3-2 mark. He pinned Joe Beach (Ithaca) in his first match and after a loss in the quarterfinals he rebounded with a pin of Stephen Terwilliger (Penn State Dubois) in 3:25 and a 4-3 victory over Dennis Bencosme (Ithaca) to advance to the consolation semifinals. The blue & gold will compete in two WNYAC dual meets in their final week of the regular season. They host Mercyhurst North East at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and then travel to Niagara CCC on Sunday for a 2 p.m. start.
