±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï and Alfred University students ‘Spring Into Action’ for annual day of service

About 175 ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College and 50 Alfred University students volunteered recently to make a difference in their surrounding communities during the annual Spring Into Action Day of Service.

Altogether, 23 projects were planned for the event, stretching from Cuba to Corning, as noted in The Spectator. These included rehabilitating Alfred’s community garden, the cleanup of local cemeteries, and assisting with spring preparations at area state parks.

Jonathan Hilsher, director of the Center for Civic Engagement at ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï, was quoted in The Spectator’s article on the event as saying, “Civic engagement is part of the mission at ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï, so we try to show students pathways to community involvement, get them off campus, and connect with people. Then, they’ll come back and do it again on their own.â€
