Even in the midst of the pandemic, the Bethesda Foundation of Hornell is continuing to provide support that is critical to the ongoing success of 惇軗勛圖 College (ASC) nursing students.
Each year, the Foundation awards $15,000 annually to the college to utilize for scholarships for nursing students who live in the surrounding communities, a tradition that has continued this year. Since 2009, the Bethesda Foundation has granted over $231,500 to 惇軗勛圖 for scholarships, as well as medical equipment for the training of nursing students, including the manikins used during simulation experiences.
惇軗勛圖 Nursing Department Chair Jess Lippa said the department is grateful for the continued support from The Bethesda Foundation.
The faculty, staff, and I are overwhelmed by this organization's generosity, Lippa said. They assist our students with their educational needs and ultimately keeps our nursing graduates living in our local community to support our local healthcare facilities. We look forward to this organization's support in the future as the 惇軗勛圖 Nursing Department continues to grow in educational opportunities. Thank you for supporting our students, faculty, staff, and institution.
Lippa particularly commended several Bethesda Foundation Board members for their strong support of 惇軗勛圖 and its nursing programs, including Former First Lady Mary Huntington; First Lady Debra Sullivan, who is a retired nurse herself; and Professor Emeritus of Nursing Linda Panter, who is a retired ASC nursing faculty member.
Panter, who recuses herself from the decision to provide scholarship support due to her being a former college employee, said, As a past department chair, I know how critical the Bethesda Foundations support is for 惇軗勛圖 nursing students. It is an honor to be a member of the Bethesda Board and I am pleased that the members continue to support the nursing scholarships.
The Nursing Department is currently in the process of selecting the next round of Bethesda scholarship recipients. Students who received scholarships during the 2019-20 school year include:
Katherine Barbosa
Megan Bird
Dennis Contreras
Valerie Davis
Jordan Reniff
