Heidi Williams (Cassadaga Valley, NY) feels she is prepared to start her career and hopes to eventually own her own business after completing her studies as a surveying and geomatics engineering at ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï.
±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï was close to home and comfortable to Heidi. She also earned a scholarship to attend. “Because of my grades in high school I received a scholarship that made it super easy to come. Everything was affordable and accessible.â€
Wanting to work outside drew her to surveying. “Surveying is great because you can be outside while you’re young, but you can also work inside when you grow older.â€
Prior to starting at ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï, Heidi gained work experience. “Right after I graduated high school, I started working for a surveying firm and that was the best thing I could have done. I felt really prepared when I came in. I had an idea what to look for in the classes and had a bit of experience.â€
Those experiences have only been enhanced by the professors she has learned from in the program. “The professors are able to give you one-on-one help when you need it. They are accessible and you can go to their office anytime.â€
The equipment that she has learned on at ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï is similar to the equipment she has worked on in the field. “The equipment that I use in the summer is the same brand. It is great technology, and this is where surveying is headed with scanning and GPS. I have done a little bit of everything. I have done boundary topographic surveying of schools, a huge windmill project, building layouts of construction, and bridge reconstruction.â€
Heidi is excited about her future and the prospects of owning her own company one day. “Surveying is a really great opportunity for anyone interested. There are endless job opportunities and everywhere you go you can get a job.â€
±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï has expanded Heidi’s boundaries for a bright future.
