The 2008-09 ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College athletic season kicks off this week as preseason camps open in preparation for the fall seasons. Football, volleyball, men's & women's soccer, and baseball will all report to campus and begin practice by Sunday while the cross country team will begin practicing on Tuesday.

Eight ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College athletes have earned NJCAA Academic All-Americans for excellence in the classroom. Cal Ayers (Letchworth), Keenan Hall (Monticello), Kaila Smith (Alfred Almond), Dustin Falkner (Letchworth), and Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA) were all named Distinguished Academica All-Americans while Kevin Underhill (Somers), Paul Farrell (St. Francis), and Sarah Palmiter (Alfred Almond) were named All-American.

±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College is getting prepared to host the annual summer sports festival. The 2008 version of the sports festival will include the 27th annual day camp and the 40th learn to swim program. ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï coaches will also be sponsoring camps in Basketball, Volleyball, and Soccer.

±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College volleyball player Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) has been named the Western New York Athletic Conference co-female freshman athlete of the year. Jerome helped the Lady Pioneers to the National Championship Tournament and a 36-6 record.

Three ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College athletes have been awarded the SUNY Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award for excellence academically and athletically. Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA), Zak Williamson (Rocky Point), and Keenan Hall (Monticello) were honored by SUNY and Chancellor Dr. John B. Clark.

±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College sophomore softball players Sarah Flint (Westmoreland) and Bridgett Bachert (Horseheads) were named All-WNYAC second team. Flint and Bachert helped ASC to a 10-28 record in Coach Michael Caba's first season at the helm of the program.

Kevin Underhill (Somers), Derek Speaker (Starpoint), and Bruno Saraceno (Binghamton) were first team selections while Andrew Foster (Clarkson, ONT.), Craig Kosnikowski (N. Tonawanda), Kelvin Espinosa (George Washington), Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas), and Yordis Veras (Newtown) were second team selections.

Four members of the ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College lacrosse team have been recognized with postseason awards. The Pioneers returned to the Region III Tournament where they finished 6th with a 9-5 overall record and a 7-5 mark in Region III play.

Najia McGee (Rochester/Edison) highlighted day three of the NJCAA Division III National Championships with two individual titles and one relay title as the ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College women's track & field team finished 5th out of 17 teams. Hector Cuero (Middletown), Andrew Omoregie (Gates Chili), and Zak Williamson (Rocky Point) ran to 2nd places finishes as the men's team finished 6th out of 22 teams.
