26th Annual Honors Convocation - Sunday, April 18

The convocation recognizes the outstanding work of students through acknowledgement of membership in a variety of honor societies as well as the conferment of scholarships and special recognitions. More than 300 students will be honored at this year’s celebration, presided over by Craig R. Clark, ASC interim vice president for academic affairs. The welcome and introduction of keynote speaker Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient 2009 James A. Bradbury, president, Kanawha Scales & Systems, Inc., will be given by Dr. John M. Campus Bookstore Still the Best Choice for ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï

College students can buy and resell their textbooks anywhere these days, but an overwhelming number of ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College students choose to use the Auxiliary Campus Enterprises and Services (ACES). According to the survey respondents, 82 percent of students purchase their books from the store. ACES runs the Campus Stores at both ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï campuses. Read Article

Students Explain and Demonstrate Uses of Alternative Energy

Several freshmen enrolled in ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College’s electrical construction and maintenance electrician program, recently traveled to Letchworth Central School at the invitation of middle school health teacher Susan Murphy to explain and demonstrate the uses of alternative energy. Read Article

School of Applied Technology to Host 12th Annual NYS Postsecondary SkillsUSA Competition

±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College’s School of Applied Technology, Wellsville, will host the 12th annual New York State Postsecondary (college level) SkillsUSA competition Saturday, March 27, 2010. Proposed categories of competition are automotive service, CNC milling, carpentry, collision repair technology, commercial baking, computer maintenance technology, culinary, masonry, precision machining, residential wiring, technical drafting, and welding. CRT Sponsors Competition to Raise Funds for Haiti

In its continuing effort to aid the people of Haiti, another Alfred State campus group, the Campus Round Table (CRT), the central governing board for all Residence Halls on campus, sponsored a campus-wide penny wars competition. CRT members sat in front of The Terrace during the lunch rush and raised a total of $230.63. Read Article

Health Information Technology NYHIMA Awards

An ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College health information technology graduate is being honored with achievement awards in 2010. Cheryl Wilkins, Wilson, has been awarded the New York Health Information Management Association (NYHIMA) Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Wilkins, who graduated from ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï in December 2009, maintained a 3.26 grade point average (out of a possible 4.0). Read Article

ASC Receives National Recognition for Community Service, Named to President’s Honor Roll

±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College has been named to the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement. Read Article

Damrath Named Distinguished Jurist by Center for Dispute Settlement

Joseph Damrath, attorney, Hornell City judge, and associate professor at ±¬×ß³Ô¹Ï College, has been named a Distinguished Jurist by the Center for Dispute Settlement. He was honored at a luncheon in February. Damrath, who was among 10 candidates nominated for the award, selected by a panel of judges from the Seventh Judicial District (which includes Steuben County), was cited for using peaceful conflict resolution in his courtroom for the past 15 years, which helps in alleviating court-case backlogs.
